National Minimum Wage increase & new rules on tips

Today, 1 October 2009, sees the implementation of two measures on employee pay.
National Minimum Wage increases
• workers aged 22 and over  - from £5.73 to £5.80 per hour
• workers aged 18 to  21 - from £4.77 to £4.83 per hour
• workers aged 16 or 17 - from £3.53 to £3.57 per hour

Redundancy pay increase

Following the Budget announcement that the cap on a week’s pay for redundancy purposes is to be increased from £350 to £380 the Government has now confirmed that this will take effect from 1 October 2009.  The maximum statutory redundancy payment will therefore increase from £10,500 to £11,400.
