Increase in Compensation Limits
The annual index-linked increase to the limits for employment rights payments comes into effect on 1 February 2009.
The main limits increased are:
- Amount of a weeks pay (for e.g. redundancy calculation & unfair dismissal basic award) from £330 to £350
- Unfair dismissal compensatory award - from £63,000 to £66,200
- Statutory guarantee payments (per day) - from £20.40 to £21.50
The new limits apply where the relevant event occurs on or after 1 Feburary 2009. For example, in an unfair dismissal case, the new rates will apply where the effective date of termination falls on or after that date.
In addition, the following increases take effect from 6 April 2009:
- Statutory Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay - from £117.18 to £123.06
- Statutory Sick Pay - from £75.40 to £79.15
