REACH - chemicals
The ECHA has published its first list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs); see http://echa.europa.eu/consultations/authorisation/svhc/svhc_cons_en.asp. Anyone who wants to challenge a substance’s classification as an SVHC on this list must do so by Thursday 14 August 2008. The EU Regulation known as REACH (1907/2006/EC) has serious implications for any business which imports chemicals into Europe, manufactures chemicals in Europe, or even just uses chemicals in Europe. The pre-registration period has now started and ends in December 2008. Producers and importers in particular should be aware of this deadline, as to miss it may put them at a serious disadvantage to their competitors.
